The iRig Pro Duo I/O is also perfect for using with IK Multimedia programs like the flagship Amplitube software. Plugged in turns it into a perfect practice system for musicians. I have been using iRig devices for years now, and I love the fact the Duo can do 2 channels at a time. What is an iRig?
IRig Pro Duo is the smallest full-featured dual-channel interface on the market. Its elegantly designed lightweight thermoplastic housing is designed to take the rigors of life on the road, session after session. The iRig Pro Duo was connected to an iPad Air 2 and was instantly recognized in Auria. I like that the gain knobs are flat - it really cuts down the profile of the unit and is less likely to get accidentally changed by inadvertent contact. IRig Pro Duo I/O is compatible with all your favorite apps, from GarageBand for recording, to FilMIC Pro for video recording, Bossjack Studio for podcasting, and even Facebook and Instagram for live-streaming. You’ll never stop finding new cool apps to use. A serious production bundle. Don’t have a favorite app to work with?
IK Multimedia have released an update to their best-selling iRig, a high spec, highly portable mobile recording device aimed at guitarists on the go. It can run batteries, records at 24bit/96Khz quality, has a headphone out, an amp out with switchable options and comes with a full version of IK’s awesome Amplitude 4 software for Mac/PC/IOS, perhaps the best AU amp emulator we’ve used. What connections does the iRig HD 2 Have?
*96kHz Digital Audio with 24-bit A/D conversion
*1/4’ Amp output jack with switchable output “FX” and “Thru”
*1/8’ Headphone output with preamp and level control
*Comes with microphone stand mounting clip and Velcro strip
*Comes with AmpliTube 4 for Mac/PC
*Unlocks full version features and gear of AmpliTube for iOS (Free download from App Store)Can iRig plug into an Amp?
Yes! You can use the 1/4’ Amp output straight into your amp, this is found on the iRig2, HD2 or on the iRig Pro Duo there’s 2 balanced 1/4’ outputs for speakers on an amplifer.
Perhaps the most useful feature of the iRig HD 2 is the ability to send your signal to an amp without the need for any converters. You can send your ’wet’ or ’dry’ signal allowing you to connect directly to a tuner, or another amplifier so you can blend sounds to create another huge guitar tone in a live set-up. You can send a stereo signal out to a PA to create more width in your sound. There’s also a handy mic stand clip so you can keep the interface in place as your rocking out on stage. Can I use the iRig with my iPad, iPhone and Garageband?
The ability to hook your guitar up with Amplitude and use in a live setting is very useful. No need to lug around heavy guitar amps to gigs anymore! You can just use your iPad or iPhone and plug straight into the PA or speaker system. It offers a much cheaper alternative to Kemper’s famous profiling amps. You can hook the iRig up with the Blueboard which allows you to switch between amps/pedal settings via bluetooth. You can of course use the iRig to then use the inbuilt amps on Garageband, but the Amplitude amps a WAY better and sound more realistic. Can I iRig be used on a PC or an Android device?
Yes! Don’t be put off by the ’i’ iRigs are compatible with PC’s and Android devices, you just need to be careful which one you buy. There’s a specific Android devices The iRig UA, but the standard iRig 2 works with PCs/Android/Samsung devices. You can also use the Amplitude UA app on android devices. Can iRig be used with a microphone?
You can hook up a microphone to an iRig as long as you have the correct cable (XLR to jack) but you might be better offer buying the iRig Pro Duo. This model comes with 2 XLR / 1/4’ jack inputs, 2 balanced outputs, phantom power for condenser microphones and input gain knobs. It’s the most connectable of all the iRigs and works more like a multi-functional audio interface, therefore it’s the most expensive, but it works with any device, PC, Apple or Android. iRig Pro Duo features

More info here: www.ikmultimedia.comIn this feature I ditch the recording studio and take a look at the best portable interfaces for GarageBand musicians who want the freedom to record anytime, anywhere.
The beauty of an app like GarageBand for iOS is that you no longer need to spend ludicrous amounts of money renting studio time or wait until your ‘big break’ to write, record and release your own music.
If you want your DIY music to sound its best however, you’ll need to ditch that inbuilt mic on your iOS device and invest in an audio interface of some kind.
There’s tons of choice out there and it can be hard to work out what interface is right for you. I’ve brought together 3 of the best portable recording interfaces on the planet to help you narrow down your options.
Let’s take a look.£74.99/$99.99
Compact, portable, and easy to use, the Roland GO:MIXER makes it simple to record high-quality audio with your iDevice.
With multiple inputs available, you can connect a mic, musical instruments, and media players and mix them all together at the same time.
The unit features the ability to combine five sources at once via inputs for a ¼” jack vocal mic (no XLR input or +48 V Phantom Power here), guitar, stereo keyboard, and two stereo line-level devices (such as music players, drum machines, etc.).
The quality is great, assuming you don’t clip/peak the audio. There is a dial for each main instrument input as well as a master volume dial to adjust as appropriate. The GO:MIXER also has a peaking LED which is useful to have.
All in all this little box is incredibly versatile, though the lack of XLR input or 48v Phantom Power would definitely prove limiting for some.Tech SpecsIrig Pro I O

Focusrite has a great track record for producing extraordinarily high quality USB and Thunderbolt audio interfaces for Mac and PC. With the iTrack Solo Lightning, they’ve packed most all of the killer features from their range into this little box.
While it is smaller and lacking a few of the features of some of Focusrite’s more expensive units , the iTrack Solo packs enough of a sonic punch to hold its own against most other interfaces at this price range.
The mic preamp used here series are nothing short of phenomenal, giving you clean and clear recordings every time. There’s also +48 V Phantom Power available, so you can use a studio quality condenser microphone to really push the quality of your recordings to the next level.
Super-low latency brings confidence to your performance, letting you record and monitor with software effects in real time.
